MEDICINAL:
The seeds of this shrub have been ground and used as a coffee substitute. It has been used to treat urinary tract disorders, and to increase the flow of urine. It should not be used if you have acute renal disease. Broom also may have constituents that regulate the action of the heart.
GROWING:
Broom is a pretty shrub, reaching 8 to 11 feet in size. It is an English native, now found throughout the United States and Canada. It prefers average soils and full to partial sun.
