MEDICINAL:
Barberry is used in treating high blood pressure, ulcers, cholera, to stimulate the gall bladder and liver, diarrhea, and painful periods. It is not to be used during pregnancy.
GROWING:
Barberry is a deciduous shrub that can grow as tall as 7 to 10 feet. It prefers full sun, but can take some partial shade. It is adaptable to many soils and conditions, and is most commonly found in the wild in pastures and waste areas from Canada to Pennsylvania and as far west as Missouri, and is native to Europe and Asia. Prune in the fall to help curb its growth.
