MEDICINAL:
A syrup made from the root of the Blackberry is used to treat diarrhea and upset stomach (good for treating children). An infusion of the leaves is good for treating diarrhea and sore throat, as are the dried, powdered berries.
GROWING:
Blackberry vines should be grown where they have excellent air circulation, to prevent diseases. They need fertile soil, kept moist but not soggy, and full sun. Cut back the canes each autumn. They do best with support to grow on, such as a trellis used for grapes, and should not be planted where other vegetables have been planted in the past, to avoid transferring diseases to the blackberry plants.
